A mountain range that had no bike route
The Bjeshkët e Namuna rise where Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania meet. Shepherds have crossed them for centuries and hikers have had the Peaks of the Balkans trail since 2013. Cyclists have had almost nothing.
This traverse was built from the ground up over the summer of 2026 — routed with an e-biking specialist, ridden across six consecutive days in June, and recorded in full by GPS. Every pass, every descent and every metre of climbing on this site was measured on the bike.
What makes it ridable is pedal assistance. The route carries more than 9,500 metres of ascent on shepherd tracks, forest roads and old military roads. On an ordinary mountain bike that is an expedition. On an e-MTB it is eight days that a fit, experienced recreational rider can enjoy rather than survive.
You sleep in villages, not hotels
Guesthouse Hana in Plav, Guesthouse Vuçetaj in Vuthaj, Guesthouse Gacaferri up at Doberdol. Family houses, home cooking, and money that stays in the valley it was spent in.
The bikes are Austrian and they are ours
